Rally for Trayvon Martin at the University of Minnesota
March 29, 2012
Thousands gathered at the University of Minnesota to call for legal action in response to the death of Trayvon Martin. The unarmed 17 year old black youth was shot and killed in Florida on February 26, 2012 by George Zimmerman who claimed he shot Martin in self defense. Supporters of Trayvon Martin wore hoodies in response to comments by some people in the news media like Geraldo Rivera who assigned blame for Martin's death on his own choice of clothing, saying "His hoodie killed Trayvon Martin as surely as George Zimmerman".
On April 11, 2012, thirteen days after this rally, Zimmerman was charged with second degree murder. The trial began on June 24, 2013.
On July 13, 2013 George Zimmerman was found not guilty.
