Protest against immigrant family separations
June 30, 2018
About 300 people from Northfield and Faribault protested the separation of immigrant children from their families. Donald Trump began his new "zero-tolerance policy" in April and began prosecuting all border crossings, a misdemeanor offense, regardless of whether they cross alone or with their children. The immediate effect, because children are not prosecuted with their parents, was thousands of immigrant children separated from their parents. The children are being held in detention centers and foster homes around the country. Some parents have already been deported, but their children remain in the USA.
