Speaker at a rally against hate speech
October 6, 2016
About 200 protesters met on the University of Minnesota campus to protest episodes of racism and bigotry on campus. The trigger of the protest was the painting of a mural by the College Republicans student group prominently displaying the words "build the wall", a slogan of presidential candidate Donald Trump. Protesters denounced the mural as hate speech, saying it targeted minorities and immigrants. University President Eric Kaler acknowledged the mural was offensive but also condemned the anti-Trump graffiti that has since covered the mural. The protesters voice a number of complaints about President Eric Kaler, such as allowing the Washington Redskins to play the the university and his lack of concern for students of color.
