Centenary Celebration

Cover of the special 36-page programme (£3) Southwell City Football Club issued to mark their first game at the Centenary Sports Ground in out-of-town Brinkley.

City made a winning start, beating Notts Senior League rivals Keyworth United 1-0 in a Premier Division fixture. Substitute Fraser Bicknell, volleying home a Will Stocks cross from the right, netted in the 57th minute.

Southwell, sixth, could have beaten their fifth-placed visitors more emphatically. City saw a Cal Law 'goal' chalked off in the 26th minute because a free-kick had been taken from the wrong place then Bicknell struck a post in the 73rd minute.

Circa 75 spectators attended on a testing afternoon of gale-force winds, finger-numbing temperatures and intermittent showers.
