Gompertz Theatre

The Park-Seventh Theatre opened in 1925. It became the Garden Theatre in 1934 and changed names again in 1941 and became the Art Theatre. It stopped showing movies and had switched to live performances by the early 50s.

I "discovered" this theater a few months ago going over some old Sarasota newspapers. Pinpointing its location was a different story. When the theater was first built, they named it after a nearby intersection. Well, by the 50s, the City of Sarasota renamed and renumbered most of its streets so that Park and Seventh no longer intersected or even ran near the theater!
