Roots

Note that these roots are going from the tree on the free-standing rock to the main bluff.

Thanks both of you. It is a pretty cool thing. I wish I could have done a better job capturing the enormity of it. That root extends at least 15 feet - it's one of those scenes you need a wide angle (or to be there) to fully capture.

      Wow!
I've never seen anything like that - thanks for sharing!

Back in the mid-70s, I camped not far from Chaple Rock. I didn't know what Chaple Rock was until I saw it the next morning. I was so moved, I HAD to climb over to it using the roots...so...I left my pack on the main cliff, grabbed the roots and got to the pine on top of the Rock. It was Thanksgiving weekend with the first snowstorm of the year. The wind was blowing pretty hard, so, once I got to the tree I just wrapped my arms around it and thought.."what a dumb-a**...If I fall, they will never find my body...The Lake will take it away." I was too affraid to think about praying...too much in a hurry to get back to the safety of the cliff, but, praying would of been appropriate at Chaple Rock.
Thank you much for the picture. It is the only one I have seen yet that shows the roots clearly.

Dude, these are some great shots of Chapel Rock. When I was there I considered climbing across the roots but decided since there was no emergency aid available for a LONG time if I fell, it would be best to stay safe. These are some fantastic photographs!

      Whoops ... critical comment ignoration.

You're welcome - I had never seen anything like this either.

You're welcome. Pretty crazy story. Kids, don't try that at home.

Thanks. I was definitely in the "think about climbing across then don't" camp.
