Solutions are the focus of
Global South-South Expo 2011
The annual Global South-South Development Expo takes place in Rome this year, from 5 to 9 December at the headquarters of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).
Government representatives, NGOs, and UN organizations gather at the Expo each year to discuss customized South-South cooperation solutions to promote development, food security and other key objectives for participating countries.
South-South cooperation allows for triangular cooperation pacts between developing countries, facilitated by United Nations and other development institutions. Through South-South cooperation, countries develop their own capacities and make gains in nutrition, health, education, agriculture, food security and other areas. The common objective is to move all countries closer to the Millennium Development Goals.
At South-South Expo 2011, BBC News presenter Zeinab Badawi hosts a Leadership Roundtable on food security. An exhibition floor highlights some of the most successful and innovative South-South cooperation solutions from over 30 exhibitors. A series of forums focus on the transfer of information, ideas and technology.
