Lyman H. Needham

This is a son of my children's 5th-great grandfather (Benjamin Cooley Needham) by his second wife (Lois Huntley Needham). His half-brother Silas Thayer Needham was their 4th great-grandfather. Silas' birth mother, Achsah (Thayer) Needham, Benjamin's first wife, died when Silas was only three years old, so he and his two young siblings considered their step-mother to be their mother, too. Silas' step-mother had nine more children with Benjamin.

Although not a direct ancestor, Lyman's story is interesting. He died as a Civil War prisoner at Andersonville in 1864.

Read more about him.

"During the 15 months during which Andersonville was operated, almost 13,000 Union prisoners died there of malnutrition, exposure, and disease; Andersonville became synonymous with the attrocities which both North and South soldiers experienced as prisoners of war. " (Source)
