what a classic piece - the lamp looks like it could be interesting too - what is the tusk/tooth?

      Very nice piece!

Baker's Photos, the "tusk" is probably a horn,. It's a handle for the ink blotter, and probably as old as the desk. The wooden candle holder is a souvenir given to my mother by friends who went to Germany. It seems unlikely that it was ever used as a real candle holder -- wood?

The lamp was hers, too. I have no idea how old it is. We bought the lampshade at Walmart the other day.

The tusk/horn/tooth looks like a boar tusk? And the candle holder looks like wood to me, too.

Boar tusk? maybe so. Yes, the candle holder is wood, and that's not a real candle in it! Do they sell them in gift/souvenir shops in Germany? Maybe her friends got is somewhere else. It was when they went to visit their son (who is my age) when he was stationed in Germany. That was during the Cold War.

Here is the desk and chair when it was in Mother's house. (Yes, I have the chair, too!)

I don't spend much time in gift or souvenir shops, but I'm sure I could find something similar somewhere... ;-)

Beautiful old desk! It looks like it's been well used too. It must have been such a wonderful feeling to sit here and write a real letter, instead of an email.
