Herbert Martin's gravestone

The gravestone of Private Herbert Martin (1884-1917) in Boulogne Eastern Cemetery, Pas de Calais, France. Unusually for war graves, the stones are laid flat. This is due to the sandy soil in Boulogne-sur-Mer.

Herbert was one of 6 British soldiers killed in a train accident on 17th October 1917. He was 33 and had a wife and 4 sons at home.

This photograph was taken by someone else and emailed to me. I hope to personally visit soon.
