G.W. Gaddy

This is a picture of my great-grandfather in his Civil War uniform. He enlisted at Camp Kirkpatrick Sept. 26, 1861. He served in the 38th Regiment, Georgia Infantry and was appointed 5th Sgt. in April, 1862. He died at Antietam from artillery shell.

When I visited the battlefield in 1982, it was marked so well I could follow the regiment's position. According to family history, G.W. was last seen crossing Burnside Bridge. I stood in that spot.
