    Recognized for numerous projects that serve to fulfill its mission to “strengthen the relationship between people and nature through community action.” The nomination highlighted:

    A conference for homeowners on the need for and value of watershed stewardship.
    A Schoolyard Greening Project that converted turf areas to forest at a pumping station, providing a living classroom for nearby public schools.
    A Native Tree Discount Coupon program providing for discounts for purchases of native trees at a local nursery.
    A “Reforest Fairfax” tree gifting program through which trees will be planted in the county in honor of friends, family or clients.
    A partnership with a homeowners association on restoration of degraded areas near the I-495 HOT Lanes project.
