The entrance of St. Nicholas

Stadshart Zoetermeer.

Saint Nicholas was Bishop of Myra (in modern-day nearby Antalya, Turkey). He was born in the third century in the village of Patara. He had a reputation for secret gift-giving, but is now commonly identified with Santa Claus. People in the Netherlands celebrate his birthday with gifts on the 5th of December.

St. Nicholas has many helpers, they are called ‘Zwarte Pieten’’ (Black Pete’s).
