EXPLORE front page + EXPLORE #2 for 14 April 2010
Dear Flickr friends,
This is the first photo of my new project about Tokyo Yamanote Line (山手線).
The Yamanote Line (Yamanote-sen) is one of Tokyo's busiest and most important commuter rail lines.
With 29 stations, it runs as a loop line and connects most of Tokyo's major stations and urban centres.
According to wikipedia, an estimated 3.5 million passengers ride every day on Tokyo's Yamanote Line, more than the number of passengers per day carried by the whole of the London underground (12 lines, 275 stations).
This project will be organised in the form of "a day on the Yamanote Line", starting from the first train in the early morning and finishing with the last train (even though I will not upload the photos on Flickr in this order). I started this project because I was fascinated by the idea that by being always on the same line and going round and round in the loop, as the day progressed I would have been able to see the whole range of Tokyo life just passing in front of me.
Please note that I am still in Tokyo and still working on this project. So if sometimes you see a 変な外人 (strange foreigner) taken pictures on the train or in or around the stations - it may be me... come to say hello or if you want to join me for a Yamanote line ride drop me a line!!
