Murphy's Hotel
The main building seen in these photos was built around 1911.

A bridge once connected the main building to an annex across 8th street. It was removed and scrapped during a WWII scrap metal drive.

Around 1960, The name changed to "Hotel King Carter."

I notice a date of 06/01/1966 as a property transfer for this parcel. This could have been when the state purchased the building.

The building was demolished in 2007.

The building is now gone. In it's place is a gravel parking lot, serving about two dozen cars.

Check out the Oct issue of Richmond Magazine for some of my photos of the Murphy.
