Walking - Tall Order in Kerala
Two young men walking tall on the Kerala horizon. At one with the wires around them.
These are participants of an annual Kalari event that takes place in Tirunavaya in North Kerala. Kalari is a short form of Kalaripaiyuttu, an ancient martial art form that was in practice in the state to settle disputes between various feudal overlords. Now a days it is practiced in its ritualised sports format and has a fairly large following in North Kerala.
You notice with some trepidation that the exponents of Kalari were sans footwear. The rough tar macadam roads are gritty and no pleasure to walk upon. Much less to jump and land on your feet after doing reverse flips from almost 6 feet up. Hats off to the young guns and their tough calluses.
