The Lost Lighthouse

Newer Older

This was taken in a town near North Bay, Ontario, Canada called Callander. It was scheduled for demolition, but blew away on July 17, 2006 durring a massive storm.

Cool this has been Blogged

CM: This is one photo of a set I have been compiling that represent icons in the local community. For this particular photo, I wanted to capture the peacfull serenity of this aging lighthouse in the context of it's environment. Early spring (or late fall) is a gloomy time, where the weather is still cold, and the trees have not come back to life yet, which fit well with this subject.

Here is the vertical composition so may people have asked for. Please let me know which you prefer.

I just printed this one 3' wide on an Epson 9800. Wow!! I would never have believed that the photo quality would hold up when printing that large from this old camera.

Johny Day, nellee100, McPig, and 74 other people added this photo to their favorites.

I like the space around the lighthouse. I wouldn't crop it. In fact its a pretty good image. I like the pastel.

The cropping suggestion looks a bit better (i like the reflection and this puts more emphasis on it), but i like it as you've shot it as well, as it meets your aim better with the extra stillness. Nice use of subtle pastel colours to emphasise the calmness.

I love lighthouse pictures, I have a set only with those.
Thank you for your comments on my Victoria Regia picture, the waterlily.
You completely right on your appreciation, the sun was very strong and was difficult to manage it. I could not go early or later, because I was in that city working for one day only, and lunch time was the only time I could make it.
I have no idea how come did I post my picture on that evaluation group, I actually toke it out yet, I was reading the rules, and you should comment 5, I came to tell you, because you may want follow their rules.
I toke an overall view on your work, I liked, contratulations.

Wow ... I love the lonely, sombre mood set by this shot ... for what it's worth, I wouldn't crop it. I like it just as is.
