evergreen container ships under giant cranes in the port of los angeles, california.

Something like where Frank Sobotka and family ruled the port of baltimore in season 2 of the wire.

    5 seconds, F14, 70-200

    FYI for you vignette-haters, it's all-natural ambient

this is one of my favorite SF Bay Area nightshots. I'm jonesing to get over there and shoot those big cranes in the port. i can't seem to find a spot to shoot though that's close to waters edge. where did you shoot this from?

ahhhhhh yes i was never able to find a good spot to shoot container ships/cranes in SF either. this one happens to be down in LA at the harbor there. you can check the exact location on the map above if you ever happen to be in the area (i'm just passing through for some time with the padres before i head out to live in tokyo).

Nice. I like the mixture of lighting (the yellow, blue and green lights).

I'm very conflicted. I really like this sort of thing and I like this. But, I find it sort of confusing. I'll go default. Delete2

Stunning. The light reflected in the water, the colors, just beautiful.

I appreciate the vivid reflection of night lights and rich colors upon the still water. The Canon EOS 5D Mark II truly own the night with its high resolution and clarity, its noise-free evening skies, and its superb color and contrast control. This is an excellent NightScene capture. A Save.

Not really sure what the subject is... the boats? Boring. The cranes? Blocked by the boats. Meh.

Good attempt, but overall, too dark, and that detracts from the drama you were going for.

The reflection is a bit distracting and i'm not a fan of the warmer ambient light. -delete-
