Curtis Bar-B-Q - Putney, VT

I believe most Montrealers read this article on Curtis Barbeque and thought, "zOmG BBQ!"

www.montrealgazette.com/life/Southern+barbecue+southern+V...

So when Ryk facebooks me and asks if I want to venture out to BBQ 4 hours outside of Montreal. I read, "zOmG BBQ!" I was also supposed to go visit my niece and nephew before they move from the burbs of Rochester (6 hour drive from Montreal) to the burbs of Pittsburgh (11 hour drive!). I did both. How long will it be before I drive through Vermont? :)

Verdict?

BBQ was good but not zOmG amazing. The coleslaw and potato salad were tasty. Yams and collards were mediocre. If I were road tripping on the way to Boston and I stopped for BBQ after lots of crap dive station food, this would be food holy land. For a drive to the holy land of BBQ, not quite. I like my BBQ a little less dry and a little bit more intensely flavoured. I would like to go back another time mid summer as we went in between peak dining hours. They're supposed to serve pulled pork and it wasn't on the menu so I'm guessing this might have been a slight off day/time slot. We ate at 4pm.

What made the food better and the drive worth it, was the experience. There's a giant pig with tusks sitting under the BBQ, three fat golden coloured dogs roaming harmlessly with one being a sloppy dirty roll around golden (gray) labrador, fat carnivorous sparrows, giant kitty litter - I mean kiddie corner, roaming roosters, curious littered knick knacks, and the original beautiful Curtis flipping ribs.

Also, road tripping with foodies confirms despite my lack of food expression, my palate is up to par. :)
