Installing the Columbus laboratory
The European Columbus laboratory was installed on International Space Station (ISS) during the first spacewalk of the STS-122 mission in February 2008. NASA astronauts Stanley Love and Rex Walheim spent nearly eight hours outside their spacecraft, preparing the Columbus laboratory for transfer from Space Shuttle Atlantis’s payload bay to the ISS ‘Harmony’ Node-2 module.
