Nutrition emergency in Nigeria
Women queue at ALIMA’s clinic, which saw over 6000 consultations in the first three months since it opened in August 2016. Of those, 1000 were of severely malnourished children, who were subsequently treated.
The malnutrition rates are extremely critical in the northeast regions of Nigeria where humanitarian organisations have access to the population. But in areas which are still under Boko Haram control and completely inaccessible, up to 800 000 people are cut off from humanitarian assistance, with reported pockets of populations facing famine.
