303/365: 'Force of renewal'
“With each sunrise, we start anew” ~Anonymous
What keeps you rising out of bed each morning?
My Mum always used to tell me that there will always be someone out there who's smarter, stronger, taller (although, almost everyone is, compared to me), better looking and just generally better... she always left a gaping pause before telling me that the important thing is to "make do with what you've got". The smart-ass in me always asked "But what if you haven't got much?"... And with sullen impatience, she would say; "Then, just pray for some luck, cause you're gonna need it." She never did have the knack for sugar-coating bitter truths; a disciple of tough love, Mum never hesitates to tell it like it is.
Sometimes, I find myself wondering how people end up living on the streets here in Australia or anywhere in the world. When I see people sleeping with their cardboard boxes and plastic bags, I don't ever reserve any judgment, but I find myself asking questions. Then, I drift off and wonder, if I ever end up in the streets, would I have the strength to wake up in the morning?
Nothing is ever as bad as it seems. And like my sweet Mum always chants "Today is a new day, let us rejoice and be glad in it..."
