Shortly after the explosion of this morning
The first thing this morning was my love Catherine waking me with the words "something has happened at Etna", and upon seeing the seismic trace on the Internet , I said "I bet that's been the Bocca Nuova again", then looked through the archived images of the thermal web cam located on the Montagnola (that's the peak at left, partly wrapped in cloud). And there it was, a sequence of images spectacularly showing the explosion that had occurred at 05.46 h local time today, 22 December 2010. Minor ash emissions continued for several hours and are also visible in this photo taken before sunrise from my home in Trecastagni (the brownish cloud issuing from the left part of the summit area, which coincides with the Bocca Nuova, in the center right portion of the image).
