The beauty of Etna's western flank
This is a scene near Monte Peloso, on the lower western flank of Mount Etna. We went there on a wonderful hike with a couple of friends from France, and while virtually all other sectors of Etna were in clouds, the western side was cloud-free and sunny, making this hike extremely enjoyable. We first climbed Monte Minardo, and then walked through the green forests and grasslands just to the east of it, higher upslope, coming across Monte Peloso, Monte Sellato, Monte Tre Frati and then Monte Ruvolo. There is hardly an area on Etna that is more varied and more beautiful, and it's a bit bewildering that this is also the least known area on Etna.
