Gay Pride in Israel
The 2009 Gay Pride Parade started in Gan Meir on Kinge George street.
Most of the people had already cleared out of Gan Meir and started marching in droves down Tchernikovsky street when I got there. There was still a small crowd and some music but most of the park was just a grassy clearing by then, and in the middle was this Israeli boy waving his flag back and forth.
I feel like pants are the real bridge to manhood in Israel. Boys wear shorts for most of the year, as appropriate in this climate, but once you reach a certain age men tend to wear long jeans no matter how hot or humid it gets. I'm still trying to adjust to this.
