A Love of Reading 263:365

Newer Older

When my girls are ready to learn to read, we use this wonderful old book called "How to Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons". It's a really fun method that converts more English words into words that can be sounded out. Each lesson has a short story at the end with a drawing depicting that lesson's story. You keep the picture covered while you read the story the first time. We make a big deal out of *finally* getting to uncover the (usually silly) picture to see if we correctly guessed what it will show. This exercise is a natural way to teach reading for comprehension without relying on pictures. For Alba's turn with this book, we've been keeping the story picture covered with a lovely postcard from M-C's Etsy shop. Such a fun way of keeping our friend M-C close to our hearts every day. :)

Everything about this is just so sweet - from the lil' red jammies, to the light, the way she's following her words with her finger, and the way you included M-C card.. Great story - and I hope she really catches that reading bug and never lets it go!

just too cute.....love that book, sounds awsome. I mean, Iker is a long way from reading (6 months old), but I am already looking at things for those days.

You're with us every day, M-C! xoxox As you know, Alba loves you and really loves that we use your postcard with *her* special book!

Thanks, my love! You sure make great kids!

Thanks so much, Henry! Alba is enjoying this book even more than my older daughters did. She just loves knowing she can read like the rest of the family now. :D

Thanks, Shelia! It was such a nasty bruise -- she's rather proud of the fact that it's *green* today. LOL!

Iker will be there before you know it! I can *highly* recommend this book -- it has worked its magic for all three of my girls now!

Adorable photo, she's so precious. The reading system sounds really interesting, and so nice that you've included a piece of MC's art... I must check out her shop :)

Isn't this wonderful? And a fantastic technique on the 'learning to read' side of things....

Alicia, I love your photos - they always inspire me so much - wish I could capture things and people like you do....maybe one day :)

Me too, Eva! I love that we've made so many friends just because of this 365 project!

Thanks, sw! It's very funny because she loves to be moving somehow while she reads. :)

Thanks, Trace! I can highly recommend M-C's store!

Thanks, Jen! I've loved getting to know all of you!!

Thanks so much, Ruthy! I'm afraid my ability is limited to capturing my family this way. That's enough for me! I'm glad you enjoy my photos! I love sharing them with you!
