Mobius Arch - - - Sierra Portal
It has been many years since I've been on Whitney Portal Road in Lone Pine, California. The last time I was in this area, it was all about the hike up Mount Whitney (young and dumb), but this time it was all about taking photographs in the Alabama Hills, CA.
This is Mobius Arch, a fascinating formation that can be reached via a short 10 minute walk on a marked trail. This arch stands maybe 5-6 feet in height. It's always funny how one's preconceived notions of a place are so different when visiting it first hand. I didn't notice the distant light beam through the arch when I first took this shot, so I was pleasantly surprised to find it later. I stuck around until sunset, visited only by an occasional hiker or a small group of friendly European tourists.
