Autumnal Equinox

On the Island of Rapa Nui (Easter Island), there is only one notable astronomical alignment. It was by pure luck that I happened to be on the island during the autumnal equinox, during which the Belt of Orion aligns vertically above the heads of the seven Moai (Ahu Akivi). If you look at the top 40%, center of the image you can make out the three stars.

While I was there trying to get a few shots, several local Rapa Nui people drove up to the site to also see the alignment. Their flashlight lit a single Moai and I got this shot!
