      The question is:

      Sigma 50-500 f/4-6.3 for $1000
      Canon 70-200 f/2.8 for $1600
      (Untested) Sigma 70-200 f/2.8 for $800

...for the price I'm not impressed with the 70-200mm f/2.8 -at least not enough to cough up that much money. I've rented it 'cause it does have the advantage in low light, but for me it's just not worth it. Since everyone's photography interests vary, YMMV. That's why I posted it, so anyone who's interested could make the decision for themselves. If I end up in the market for this sort of lens, chances are I'd go with the Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 macro for 1/2 the price. The results are only a hair worse and as a bonus you get macro, so...?

I have the sigma 50-150 and have been happy with it so far. I also have the sigma 50mm macro. I am too cheap to pony up for nikon glass and realize my ability does not surpass the glass. ;- )
