California Orchid Race!

Uploaded for... Exceptional Seeds

I'm liking the two rupicolous Laelia hybrids that I purchased from Sunset Valley Orchids this last Fall. They are blooming on last year's pseudobulbs. The third orchid, Golden Peacock (GP), was also purchased this Fall. Right now it's producing a flower spike. But, unlike the rupicolous Laelias, GP is going to bloom on this year's pseudobulb. Out of all the orchids that I grow... it's probably going to be the first in the Cattleya alliance to bloom on a pseudobulb that was produced this year. Since it will complete its growth cycle so early in the year... I was thinking that it might be my first orchid that blooms twice in one year. But then I realized that my Brassavola Jiminy Cricket (nodosa x digbyana) seems like it already blooms twice in a year.

In any case, I'm wondering if the orchids of any other outdoor growers in California (or other Mediterranean climates) are going to beat my GP.
