Old Québec ~ Château Frontenac

    Newer Older

The majestic Château Frontenac hotel in Old Québec, in the setting sun, on a verrry brrrr cold day (5th April 2012)!

The imposing structure of Château Frontenac, one of the luxury hotels built by Canadian Pacific Railways (CPR), opened in 1893. Named after Louis de Buade, Count of Frontenac, who was governor of the colony of New France from 1672 to 1682 and 1689 to 1698, the hotel continues to be owned by CP Hotels, renamed Fairmont Hotels and Resorts in 2001. It has been host to many important world figures and personalities through the years. The Quebec Conference of 1943, at which Winston Churchill and Franklin D. Roosevelt discussed strategy for World War II, was among the events of note which took place here. The Château Frontenac was also used as the filming location for Alfred Hitchcock's film I Confess, featuring Montgomery Clift and Anne Baxter, in 1953.

I wasn't dressed properly as I'd thought it would be warmer, and my hands were probably trembling from being cold ...
