The subject of this painting is Yvonne, one of Bouguereau's favorite
models. She and her sisters, Jeanne and Marguerite, who also served as
models, lived near La Rochelle, where Bouguereau found artistic
inspiration on successive summers with his family from 1893 until the
end of his career. Yvonne is immortalized at various stages of her
childhood in a succession of Bouguereau's paintings.
William Adolphe Bouguereau [French academic painter, teacher,
frescoist & draftsman. 1825 – 1905]
Bouguereau was a traditionalist in his realistic genre paintings. He often used mythological themes, making modern interpretations of Classical subjects.
