John Atkinson Grimshaw ‘A Moonlit Lane’ 1874 oil on card
John Atkinson Grimshaw [British, Victorian-era painter of landscapes and city night-scenes 1836-1893]
Grimshaw was a Leeds, England painter of landscapes, town views and dockyards, especially at sunset or by moonlight. Influenced by the Pre-Raphaelite artists, his paintings captured both the appearance and the mood of a scene in minute detail. Although his moonlit town views are his most popular works, he also painted landscapes, portraits, interiors, fairy pictures and neo-classical subjects.
