the MOMA/ PS1 blog describes : "Day TWENTY NINE
Emergency Room Performances in recognition of the Fourth anniversary of the Iraq War: Jaishri Abichandani mounted a 3 and 1/2 hour performance piece in which she bowed from a kneeling position each time others read the names of a person killed in the Iraq War. Volunteers read names alternating those of Americans and Iraqis. In the time alloted, they did not complete their task. Emergency Room Artists Nancy Friedemann and David Pushkin, and museum visitors participated in the observance. Friedemann contributed the list of Iraqi dead which she had posted on the gallery wall the previous day. Abichandani knelt on a painting with the form of Kurdish prayer rug by Toby Barnes.
During the above event, Mike Estabrook and Henrick Vibskov, played trombone and home-made drums, performing a dynamic and affecting “Happy Birthday” to the Iraq war."
