National Memorial Arboretum - Armed Forces Memorial - bronze sculptures

At the National Memorial Arboretum, near Alrewas in Staffordshire.

 

It was opened in 2001 by HRH The Duchess of Kent. On a site that was reclaimed gravel workings alongside the River Tame.

 

The land was provided by Redland Aggregates (now LaFarge), who generously donated 82 acres of land. Later 70 acres was added which includes a wildlife lake.

The Armed Forces Memorial records the names of those men and women of the Armed and Merchant Services who lost their lives in conflicts since 1945.

 

Nowhere else records the names of those who have been killed on duty in recent times. It records over 16,000 names.

 

It was designed by Liam O'Connor.
