Venice - Park - Royal Gardens - Rio dei Giardinetti
The day was so hot, we needed to find somewhere to sit down.
Eventually we found a park, just south of St Mark's Square.
These are the Royal Gardens in Venice. During the time that Napoleon was in charge (1806 - 1814), the old Terranova granaries on this site were demolished to make way for these gardens, which was originally reserved for the palace. Now open to the public, they have facilities for picknickers or those who simply want to sit and rest.
A canal runs past the gardens. St Mark's Square would be on the other side of those buildings.
I think that canal just goes around from the basin to here.
At least one gondola and one boat are here.
The canal is the Rio dei Giardinetti.
It's Italian name is the Giardini ex Reali.
