girl with a pearl earring
i chose this painting to start the series for mainly two reasons. 1) it is very well-known, and 2) it was easy in the sense that i had everything i needed to make this photo. it was difficult in that i had no one helping me and trying to get the head position just right was fun.
a couple years ago a book came out about this painting, a novel. since not much is known about this painting, who the girl is, or why it was painted, the author almost had free reign with what she could write about. while the book was rather slow, it still had me captivated because the story was so great and full of colorful descriptions.
