Huge crowd outside the assembly, chanting "SHAME"
With just a few minutes notice, the social media wires lit up to let Madsonians know their rights were about to be taken away. Senate Republicans had decided to split the union-busting portion of the "budget repair bill" into its own piece of legislation, thus making it "non-fiscal" and allowing them to vote on it without the presence of the Democrats. Even given this short notice, protestors streamed to the Capitol, waited through security, and yelled all night long, shouting "SHAME" outside the assembly room, and at the departing senators after the vote. They are staying all night, and across the downtown area you can hear car horns honking the rhythm of one of our favorite chants: "This is what democracy looks like!"
The fight is just beginning. The Republicans signed their recall warrants tonight.
