Last year Zhang Shouchun's husband was diagnosed with black lung disease, after decades working in illegal mines. Fortunately he is only at stage one and an operation will likely offer a satisfactory recovery. They have little money to afford it though, and their lives are currently suspended.
These photos were taken for Wang Keqin's Great Heart Clean Dust charity, which aims to raise money for black lung sufferers, and allow them to get back to work.
I will write up the complete story when I have time.
Also, I'm half planning a series of portraits of couples beneath their wedding portraits with captions explaining why they were first attracted to each other. This one will read:
"I was married before and my husband was very handsome. He cheated on me with a shopowner. For my second husband, all I wanted was somebody loyal. But I wouldnt have married him if I knew he was ill."
