Illegal Logging and Climate Change

© D. Sims/EIA/CIP

The burning of lowland rainforest in the Rio Platano Biosphere Reserve in Honduras renders a signficant amount of carbon emissions, which contribute to global warming.

Illegal logging is an integral part of this picture, contributing to deforestation both through the direct removal of forest cover, and through the chain of land use change triggered by logging; including infrastructure development, agriculture, settlements, and fires.
