In 2004, EIA/Telapak investigators went to Taiwan and exposed one of the world's largest manufacturers and exporters of baby cribs. The company told undercover investigators that it regularly exports cribs to Europe without permits required under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES), and falsely advised that permits are not needed at import.

In early 2008, a New Jersey grand jury issued an indictment against another Taiwan-based company for smuggling ramin in the form of baby cribs.
