Great Blue Heron - Take-off

A Great Blue Heron, at Great Falls, takes off with a view of one of the waterfalls in the background.

Another fun day watching the Great Blue Herons fishing for food and jostling for prime fishing spots. I also watched some young kids scramble down the rocks from the first observation area, something i have never seen before.. i don't think the way that i get down there is that big of a deal but the route they took was quite dangerous and i was fearful for them.

There are an average of 7 drownings per year at Great Falls Park and it's easy to see why. It's a great place to hike and scramble on the rocks, but the potomac river is a treacherous in this area.
