Baby Ducks, Lost Down the Falls
These guys were found at the bottom of the falls at Great Falls National Park, on the Virginia side, more specifically, at the bottom of Fisherman Eddy where you can fish, launch a kayak and take some awesome photos. I first saw them a few days ago. I again saw them yesterday briefly, i thought for sure they would have been vulture food :(. I let a park ranger know but i doubt there is much they can do. Here is what i imagine happened..
I think that these little guys were born above the falls and were separated from the family and they made it down the falls. They were only about 30 feet from the end of the rapids, and they looked pretty shook up, hanging out on a rock and vocalizing a lot. I hope they will be alright but i don't have a good feeling about them.
I am guessing these are Mallards or Wood Duck babies.
