Canon Upgrade! 5D & 100-400L F4.5/5.6

Hello all, i just wanted to let you guys know that my photos will soon be upgraded (upgrayedd for idiocracy fans!) It was time to get a new body and lens, i wanted the 7D but it is hard to find and the 5D mark II is just as good, if not better.

I also needed to upgrade my telephoto lens, the canon 75-300 which cost me under $200. Most of my photos were using that lens, so it will be exciting to see the improvement in the quality using the 100-400mm L lens.

It took me a long time to decide on the 100-400 lens, and it was a hard decision to make. The only other option in terms of L lens is to go with the 70-200mm L F2.8 with a teleconverter, which would cost $3000.

The problem with the 70-200 with the extender is that in the 300+ range you actually lose quality. With a 2x extender the 70-200 goes to 140-400 and the F stop goes from 2.8 to 5.6 throughout. So the 100-400L gives me F4.5 to 5.6, which is better. To me, it was not worth $1300 to lose quality in the range that i use most, over 250mm.

That being said, the 70-200 is an excellent lens and i will probably be buying it in the near future. A low Fstop is huge for zoo, animal and wildlife photography. Without the extender it is an amazing lens, one of the best for canon.

The 100-400mm L lens is awesome, but there is a downside. Instead of the normal zoom method of using a ring to extend the lens, you use a "Push and pull" design which is very strange. I am a very tall and strong man and am young, so this is not a problem for me. If i were older and weaker this would be a problem.

What can you expect from my new body and lens? Hopefully improved photos :-D Also i will be experimenting with video, so that will be a lot of fun.

If you have any questions about my new equipment, feel free to ask. I would love to hear from anyone with the body or lens and are doing similar things (Animal or nature photography).

See you at the zoos! You can't miss me now!
