Trendsetter: The car that started the Matte finish craze

    Newer Older

One of the original matte black cars owned by the son of the billionaire David Murdock (owner of Dole Foods, etc). Apparently this is one of Brabus's special custom colors.

Looks great, I doubt that its owned by him, look at his father's wiki page and his only son doesn't seem like the type to drive a matte SLR with purple wheels

this car did not start the matte finish craze. know your history. it actually started around the 50's with hot rods and customs that had color added to primer. usually these were people that were in between mods and/or couldn't afford a new paint job. fast forward to around '92 and young guys mainly in so-cal started building traditional styled hot rods and customs and were going with either colored primer or sealer or base coat finishes. around '96 it started becoming more popular. next thing you know die cast cars are being sold in matte finishes and then big car companies catch on to the trend and start producing them. that's just a quick history lesson, there's a lot more to add but i just don't care to type anymore.
