Luther’s German Bible

Facsimile edition of Luther’s German Bible, showing its fraktur typeface and vivid woodcuts. The Book of Revelation (“Offenbarung Sankt Johannes”) has the most woodcuts, as Luther wanted to caricature the Papacy and get his point across to the common people, even the many who couldn’t read.

Used in my blog posting “Problems with Paul.”
