Alphabet Garden at Hayes Valley Farm
ALPHABET GARDEN
The Alphabet Garden is an open collaboration in urban farming, art and technology. In 2008, I planted a garden in alphabetical order, with edible plants from A to Z. This was a whimsical defiance of traditional planting techniques, as well as an experiment in systems of order. I designed a second Alphabet Garden at Hayes Valley Farm.

My interest in connecting dirt and technology led to the blog series Nibbles from the Alphabet Garden. In addition to curating this series, I have created open forums for people to design alphabet projects online and offline.

OPEN INVITATION TO PARTICIPATE
Everyone is welcome to participate in the project by picking a letter of the alphabet and doing an interpretive planting, cooking, homesteading, or creative action.

We'll be building Alphabet Gardens, tinctures, and installations in San Francisco, sister cities, and on the web. Come play with the alphabet with us!

INSTRUCTIONS
Pick a letter. Do something inspired by that letter (plant a seed, cook a dish, make a drawing, write a sentence or two).

Document your action in some way (through a few words, a picture, a video clip, an artwork). Put it on the internet. You can email your documentation, or post a link here in the comments.

Here is an Alphabet Garden Plant List.
