Daughtridge Farm House and Farm Complex Study: Western Edgecombe County, NC
I took a road south of Rocky Mount, NC on which I had never traveled and found one of the finest Victorian farm houses I had ever seen in Edgecombe County. Not only was the house wonderful, but the farmstead or farm complex had without a doubt the best collection of early farm barns and outbuildings I had ever run across.
I was amazed at how intact this collection of once essential farm buildings was.

After talking with the owner, who gave me a great tour of everything on the site, I discovered that only a very few of the original building from the 1890's had been lost over time. The house was built in two stages. Tthe first house built in 1890 is now at the rear of the structure, and the front, two-story addition was constructed in 1900. All of the farm outbuildings are from that same period.

After spending a couple of hours here reminiscing with the owner, Mr. Charles Daughtridge, grandson of the builder, John Hardy Daughtridge, I felt like I had literally stepped back in time. What I discovered is very rare, and was truly amazing!
