Rainbow at the Routeburn

Newer Older

Sometimes we all need a break. A few weeks ago I had just had enough of life in general... So I grabbed my camera gear and went for a drive... I ended up going past Glenorchy, and soon enough found myself driving up every random back road I could find! Determined to escape reality for a few hours, I decided to seek out an area I hadn't seen for many years, the Routeburn.

This ledgendary track runs from near this location at the northern tip of Lake Wakatipu, over the Harris Saddle before finally exiting the wilderness near Milford Sound. Truth be told, I have never completed it... But it is on my list of things to do this year, I just need the motivation!

On the subject of rainbows, I love them. I think everyone does deep down, even those who claim to be unimpressed by them. Inside everyone is a little kid that still wonders if there is indeed a pot of gold out there somewhere... Alongside however, our adult mind tells us that a rainbow is simply an optical phenomenon.

A bit of magic and belief never hurt anyone, and it sure helps calm the soul after a stressful week :-)

This part of the world certainly is spectacular, and I often feel incredibly guilty for forgetting that... I'll be honest, this shot was in my rejected pile. I wasn't happy with the initial result, but without a tripod I've been a bit limited as to what I can shoot and upload :-)

    Thanks for the feedback nonetheless!

Great job mate. I like the wild colors :-) . Have you tried and BW HDR version just keeping the rainbow in color, might be cool ?
