This is not a fancy private country club house but the sitting area of a public golf course in the Bronx.
This is the clubhouse for Pelham-Split Rock Golf Course. In the West Bronx, Van Cortlandt Park, where the very first public golf course in the nation is located, the clubhouse is being renovated now. Pelham golf course in the East Bronx was also one of the first public courses in the nation when it opened in 1901. The restoration to the original look of this clubhouse took place five years ago.
Now Pelham has two courses in the salt sea air of the Long Island Sound. The original Pelham offers wide fairways while Split Rock is for the golfer who can drive the ball straight. Straight into the woods for me.
